I've got a few of these on my TBR, especially Killers of the Flower Moon and The People in the Trees! What a great reading month. I think you've inspired me to make sure I read Killers before the movie.

Thank you Natalie! Both are such great books to have on the TBR! You should definitely read Killers before the film comes out, I think it would only enrich the experience of watching it as because the story is crazy! and very detailed and you never know what angle the film will take of an adaptation (aka the film may not hold all the important facts). At least you have a deadline to read by 😉

I’ve heard such great things about David Grann recently!

For good reason! He’s a good story teller. I’m intrigued by some of his other books now. He’s just had a new book come out called ‘The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder’ which wouldn’t usually catch my eye but since reading killers I’m really interested in it!

Kaekeyi seems interesting! The People in the Trees is in my TBR. I read about it in Lily King’s Euphoria as a “further reads suggestion”

Kaikeyi was interesting! Ive only ever read greek mythology based fiction before so reading about Indian mythology felt like a breath of fresh air! It also wasn’t too confusing to follow even though I’d never heard of the Indian epic it was based on before. The People in The Trees was so good I’d definitely recommend. I’ve never read ‘Euphoria’ by Lily King but I’d like too especially after the trees. Did you enjoy it?

Ooh, thank you for such a generous account of your reading in August. Venomous Lumpsucker and Killers of the Flower Moon have gone straight on my wish list. August was an unusually quiet month of reading for me as I engaged in a reading deprivation week but Pessimism is for Lightweights: 30 pieces of courage and resistance from Salena Godden was the highlight.

Thank you Hannah! Two really excellent choices there, let me know how you find them once you get round to reading them. Wow participating in reading deprivation week is so radical! How did you find it? Did it include no phone/TV too? I’m impressed! Godden’s piece sounds really interesting I haven’t ever come across it before - thank you for putting it on my radar ❣️

Oh, I so love Salena's poetry. Let me know if you give it a go! I went all in with the reading deprivation week, part of The Artist's Way so no reading of books, articles online or otherwise, podcasts or TV. It was absolute torture, though I spent most of the week dwelling on the frustration of it and still avoided doing my writing so whilst I hated it, I might embrace it a little differently in the future - the distant future! I wrote about the experience here: https://open.substack.com/pub/thewondering/p/a-week-without-reading
